Lower Dolpo Trek is yet another popular trekking destination for adventure seekers in Nepal. Located at less explored western region of Nepal, trekking to Lower Dolpo is most scenic off-beaten trail that offers the cultural and natural aspects of remote Nepal. The region is beautifully captured by French geographical photographer working for National Geography, the Dolpo region has been shown in all its integrity and full wonder experience. One of most read book of Himalaya – “The Snow Leopard” by late author Peter Matthiessen is based on his journey to Dolpo region.
Lower Dolpo Trekking starts with the scenic mountain flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal. The increase in road construction has become the major barrier for trekking route to be a mysterious trail. Walking through rain-shadow area, the trail is blessed with breath-taking scenario, found nowhere in Nepal. Phoksundo via Chepka and small Bon settlement is amazing with ideal place for camping and sightseeing. While crossing Bagla and Numala Pass, get ready to catch the best view of Dhaulagiri and spreading Tibetan peak.
In short, the region is truly a majestic place – a home to rarely seen Bon religious shrine and monuments alongside Buddhist heritage, great lake Phoksundo and high Himalaya Pass i.e. Bagala (5,169m) and Numala (5,309m). Geographically, it is similar to Tibetan Plateau and it remains dry, cold and sparsely vegetated.
