The border regions extending to Tibet to north of Nepal are restricted for trekking and were opened for trekking only from 1991. The western region falls under rain-shadow area behind the Himalayan chain and remain barren and dry throughout the year. These area are extremely remote and still sees very few –trekkers.
Eastern region, on the other hand, remains verdant and the trail pass through the magnificent forest rich in floral and faunal species. The region receives heavy rainfall during monsoon and remains extremely chilly at alpine altitude during winter.
All the restricted area trekking in Nepal demands high-fitness level and favors seasonal trekkers (also suitable for fit novice trekkers). Though it is humbling, the reward is immensely humbling.
The restriction is imposed to protect the breakable pristine nature and culture of Tibetan communities which remained intact till date. Trekkers intending to visit restricted area of Nepal must purchase special trekking permits from immigration of Nepal.
