Mustang Saribung Pass Trek is one of the lesser-known and physically challenging treks in Nepal that links the restricted Upper Mustang with ancient Nar Phu valley via the Saribung Pass. Saribung Pass at 6,042m is one of the highest mountain pass in Nepal and it remains frozen throughout the year.
Saribung Trail offers diverse terrain to trek on and moves from Upper Mustang into Nar Phu Valley. You will pass quaint mountain villages, arid and rock-hewn ridges, towering cliffs and high snowy passes into the alpine and dense subtropical forest with great open views.
There are couple of days when the trekking can be extremely demanding, especially when the weather is harsh and merciless. You will walk from about 2,500m to dizzying 6,042m over 10 days in remote, stark and uneven landscapes of earth. As you near Saribung Pass, you will have to navigate vast glacial moraines and steep slopes. Few days of acclimatization must be scheduled before challenging the pass.
The Pass offers superb views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif along with Himalayan peaks of Mustang region. Apart from spectacular Himalayan views, Saribung Pass Trek offers an opportunity to unveil hidden Himalayan mysteries and intact Tibetan Buddhist culture.

Physical Fitness and Experience Required
Saribung Pass Trek usually requires 6 – 7 hours trek on rugged and remote mountain trail. Sometimes you may even have walk for 10 – 12 hours. Therefore, we suggest you to prepare yourself jogging or walking 12 km every day for around 3 months before the trip. Remember – taking on Saribung Pass means, you are considering walking in high altitude and remote area for many days. Apart from excellent fitness, you must have intense passion and ability to tolerate harsh weather. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions like heart, lung and blood diseases must consult doctor before the trip.
No technical mountaineering skills are required but having some knowledge on using climbing gears would be an asset. Previous high altitude experience is also required.

Meals
We provide you an expert cook with helper to serve you the hygienic and delicious food every day during the camping trek. If you want any special food, we suggest you to notify us earlier as it has to be bought from Kathmandu and carried all the way through mountains to the camp sites. At Kathmandu and Namche, you will find many restaurants that well-satisfies your needs. While at teahouses or lodges along the trekking route, the most common food; they serve is Daal Bhaat Tarkari along with some international cuisine like Pizza, Pasta, Mo. Mo. And soup items.
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport (1,300m)
Welcome to the land of Himalayas. After the completion of airport formalities, you will meet the representative from Four Season Mountain Trek outside the Arrivals Terminal. You will receive you and transfer you to the hotel in Thamel in Private vehicle. Take your time to refresh and settle from the fight exhaustion in the cozy hotel room. In the evening, attend a farewell dinner hosted by Four Season Mountain Trek in finest cultural restaurants.

Day 02: All restricted area Permits and flight to Pokhara
After obtaining the restricted area permits in the first half day, we enjoy a 25 minutes flight over the Himalayas to Lake City, Pokahra. Upon arrival, you will met our staff and transfer to the hotel.

Day 03: Trek Starts: Flight from Pokhara – Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2,800m) – 3 – 4 hours
After early morning breakfast, we will drive to the airport and take a flight to Jomsom. The flight is exciting as it flies over the deepest gorge in the world (Kali Gandaki Gorge) with the view of Annapurna range. Then we start our trek following the riverbed of Kali Gandaki River until we reach Lubra. Here we visit Bon-po monastery and then ascend up to Ekelybatti. We further continue walking on the riverbed until we reach Kagbeni. Here we can explore the red-painted Gompa.

Day 04: Kagbeni – Chele (3,100m/ 5 – 6 horus)
We get our permits checked in Kagbeni and continue walk along the bank of Kali Gandaki. We rise up to Tangbe village and enjoy the mesmerizing sceneries along with Chortens and Mani Walls. Then we continue climbing towards Chhusang village and walk on a rocky trail that takes us to the bridge over Kali Gandaki River. Next we climb via sandy trail until we reach Chele.

Day 05: Chele – Syangboche (3,600m) via Ranchung Cave – 6/7 hours
After breakfast, we make a steep climb and cross passes of Taklam La (3,624m) and Dajori La (3,735m) to reach Samar. Then we walk along streams and other small passes to Rachung Cave located on the bank of Syangboche Khola. Rachung Cave is one of the most sacred caves in Mustang which has later renovated into a monastery. After some moment at Rachung Cave, we climb down alongside Syangboche Khola to reach Syangboche

Day 06:Syangboche – Dhakmar (3,820m/ 5 – 6 hours)
Today we trek beyondSyangboche and continue with uphill and downhill trail to Tamagaon. First we descend down to a large chorten and reach a village of Chhunggar, a small Tibetan settlement. Later, we climb across the valley and cross Nyi La (4,020m) enjoying the magnificent landscape views around. The trail winds down to the whitewashed houses of Ghemi. From here, we continue further towards the longest Mani wall in Mustang before reaching the village in Dhakmar.

Day 07: Dhakmar – Lo-Manthang (3,810m) via Ghar Gompa – 6 – 7 hours
Today we walk through some new single-track routes and cross two passes over 4,000m. After crossing a suspension bridge over Dhakmar Khola and move to Ghar Gompa, one of the ancient Gompas in Upper Mustang. Next we visit the monastery and cross a small river before reaching Chago-La (4,280m). Then we climb down until we reach the village of Lo-Manthang.

Day 08:Exploration Day: Visit Chhosar Village and Caves – 6 – 7 hours
Today we explore the highlights of Lo Manthang – Palacess, Fortress and Monasteries of Lo-Manthang. We also hike to village of Chhosar and visit Niphu monstery, the most sacred Buddhist monasteries. We also explore Jhong Cave, the largest man made cave in Upper Mustang. Jhong Cave is five stories high with 40 rooms decorated with Tibetan scripts and Buddhist murals. After exploration, we hike back to Lo-Manthang for overnight stay.

Day 09: Lo-Manthang – Yara (3,900m/6-7 hours)
After breakfast, we climb uphill from Lo-Manthang and cross Lo-La Pass (3,950m). It is the last place where we explore Lo-Manthang. After some uphill and downhill trails, we reach the Dhi village and then make a short vertical climb alongside Puyung Khola to reach Yara.

Day 10:Yara – Luri Cave Monastery (4,005m/4-5 hours)
Today we continue along the riverbank
and make a gradual uphill to Luri Cave Monastery. It is an ancient and
well-known cave monastery in the Mustang region which was built in 14 th
century. There are big ancient Chorten, holy pictures and statues of religious
figures.

Day 11: Luri Cave – Ghuma Thanti (4,600m/5-6 hours)
After breakfast, we follow the trial that goes through large pastureland with a good view of snow-capped peaks. Walking for around 5 hours and descending down, we reach a camp at Ghuma Thanti. It is a beautiful place that lies near a stream. It is the famous site for pilgrims who come to explore the sacred lake of Damodar Kunda.

Day 12: Ghuma Thanti – Namta Khola (4,890m/7 – 8hours)
Today’s trail is challenging as we have to cross two high passes. Cross Kyuma La (5,300m) and Batsyak La (5,450m) and descend down to Damodar Kunda (4,890m). Damodar Kunda is holy lake highly venerated by Hindu Pilgrims and is located in a rain-shadow zone of the Himalayas, north of the magnificent Annapurna range. We then drop down to Namta Khola.

Day 13:Namta Khola – Saribung Base Camp (4,950m/6-7 hours)
Today we start our trek from the left bank moraine of Khumjungar Glacier. Be cautious of snowy approaches on a trail. We climb through Khumjungar Glacier and reach Saribung Base Camp. At Saribung Base Camp, you are surrounded by the 6,000m peaks all around.

Day 14: Acclimatization Day
Today is the most exciting part of the trek as we scale Saribung Peak (6,328m). We start early and summit the peak on the glacier moraine. After ascending for some time , we find a split ice which parts us from the peak by an easy trail with large snow inclines. Once we summit the top, we get the best view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges along with Damodar Himal and Chhib Himal Ranges. After some moment, we climb back to base camp.
Overnight in Saribung Base Camp
Day 15:Base Camp – Nagoru (4,440m) via Saribung Pass (5,600m)
Today is the most important part of the trek as we cross the frozen Saribung Pass (5,600m). We climb via steep and slippery trail through the snow to the top of Saribung Pass. Saribung is located in secluded part of Mustang region and remains frozen throughout the year as it lies on the foot of Saribung Peak (6,042m). After some moment on the top, we descend down to Nagoru on a moraine path.

Day 16:Nagoru – Phu Gaon (4,080m/ 5 – 6 hours)
We hike from Nagoru to Phu Gaon enjoying the dramatic views of Himlung (7,126m), Nemjung (7,140m), Cheo (6,812m) and Pokarkang (6,372m), Phu Gaon is inhabited by mixed settlement – Lama, Gurung and Ghale, allowing us an opportunity to enjoy Buddhist culture and lifestyle. The Tashi Lakhang Monastery in Phu Gaon is also known as one of the world’s 108 great Buddhist Monasteries.

Day 17:Phu Gaon – Meta (3,560m/5 – 6 hours)
Today we walk to the end village and cross gate before dropping down through constricted valley to Kyang. Here we can perceive the ruins of abandoned castles of the Khampa settlement. Then we continue descending down to reach Meta. On the way, we can admire the magnificent views of Kangaru Himal (6,981m) and the Annapurna range.

Day 18: Meta – Koto (2,600m/ 6 – 7 hours)
After breakfast, we climb down following the Nar Khola and walk through the alpine forest. We cross many streams and waterfalls near Dharmasala. We also walk through many suspension bridges and riverside villages to reach the village of Koto.

Day 19:Koto – Dharapani (1,860m/ 5 – 6 hours)
Today we walk on a flat trail and cross many villages and forest to reach Timang. On the way, we get the good view of Annapurna region and other peaks. Further we descend down to Danakyu through an uneven trail. Later the trail connects to a smooth and flat route which leads us Dharapani.

Day 20:Trek Ends: Dharapani – Jagat (1,300m/ 5 – 6 hours)
After breakfast, we descend down to Marsyangdi River and pass the iron bridge just at the end of Dharpani village. We walk alongside the River and cross it several times. We also walk by the village of Karte, Tal, Sattale and Chamje to reach Jagat. We walk across few waterfalls as we make our way down towards Jagat.

Day 21: Drive: Jagat – Kathmandu – 7 – 8 hours
After breakfast, we drive on a private vehicle from Jagat to Kathmandu. On the way, we admire beautiful landscapes and countryside sceneries. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to hotel where you take a well-deserved rest. In the evening, join a farewell dinner organized by Four Season Mountain Trek in authentic Nepalese Restaurant.
