KATHMANDU, June 1, 2023 – The Nepal government has scrapped the mandatory requirement for PCR and vaccine certificates for air travellers entering the country. The new rule comes into effect from today, June 1, 2023.
The decision was taken by the government in a bid to revive the tourism sector, which has been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, around half a million tourists have visited Nepal so far this season.
The new rule means that travellers will no longer need to show a negative PCR test result or proof of vaccination when they arrive in Nepal. However, they will still be required to fill out a health declaration form and undergo thermal screening.
The new rules have been welcomed by the tourism industry, which has been lobbying the government to relax the COVID-19 restrictions. The industry believes that the new rules will make it easier for tourists to plan their vacations in Nepal.
“We are very happy that the government has finally decided to scrap the mandatory PCR and vaccine certificates,” said Suresh Acharya, president of the Nepal Tourism Board. “This will make it much easier for tourists to plan their vacations in Nepal.”
Acharya said that the tourism industry is expecting a surge in tourist arrivals in the coming months. He said that the industry is confident that Nepal can achieve its target of 2 million tourist arrivals in 2023.
