Trekking seasons in Nepal is high at spring and autumn. But it is not impossible to trek Manaslu during monsoon or winter; however it is going to be far more challenging. Below is the detailed information on the condition of Manaslu trek in different season:
Spring is one of the peak season to trek Nepal. It lasts from March to May. Sky becomes clear and temperature is mild ranging from warm to moderate: best time for trekking. All the flowers are in state of bloom; making the trek very pleasant.
Spring follows winter; so all lodges which were closed in winter may not have opened in March. However, the weather is good – neither too hot nor too cold at the heights.
Spring is known as the season best season after autumn to trek Nepal and is less-crowded. So it is for anyone who seeks a quitter vacation.
Monsoon brings greenery. Verdant forest and flowers greets you along the Manaslu trail. But continues rainfall creates a lot of problems. Leeches, landslide risk, slippery trail and dark cloud are common problem during the trek.
Monsoon generally starts from June and lasts till August. If you are keen botanist and okay with rain, I would say monsoon would be prefect for you. You can see the stunning mountains early in the morning.
Weather is quite unpredictable so it is wise to accompany a professional guide even if you are seasonal hikers.
Autumn is the best season to go for Manaslu round trek. This season is most crowded, which is still less when compared to Annapurna Base Camp or Annapurna circuit trek.
(September – November) are the best time in autumn. Though the first two weeks of September might receive some downpours. Light clouds might obscure the view. Head in October of possible. Views are completely insane. You can see golden paddies and orange covered trees in October.
It starts to get bit chilly in late November: but not in extreme level. The sky will be crystal and so will be the views.
Mountains are in their best outfit in winter and the sky turns completely blue. However, winter is extremely cold in high altitude. So cold that even locals migrate in search of warmth place. All the lodges will be closed so teahouse trekking is not possible.
Trekkers need to pack extra clothes and gears but all the preparation is nothing if Larkya La Pass becomes impassable due to ice and snow storms. This is high possibility to trek back step. You need to carry crampons and might need some climbing skills and assistance of experienced guide. Fun & adventurous but quite risky!!!!
Manaslu round trek is one of the challenging high altitude trek in Nepal. The trial passes through the green forest, rivers, streams, villages and crosses Larkya La Pass: a perfect amalgamation of adventure, culture, nature and breath-taking views.
Difficulty of Manalsu trek is in the legs and mind of the hikers. Most of trail enters in the village pathways but the remote terrain and frequent ups and downs might create some difficulty. Crossing the Pass is challenging; in fact it is an endurance test. Sometimes excess snow makes the pass impassable and crevasses on the approaches might create some risk. You have to hike with an experienced team of guide.
Teahouses along the route is very basic (but improving). Don’t expect luxury accommodation and facilities!
Manaslu region is restricted for trekking in Nepal so it is mandatory to obtain permits for the trek.
The checkpoint-in is in Jagat and Checkpoint-out is in Dharapani. Once you cross the village of Dharapani, you need another entry permit (ACAP). The price for Manaslu (RAP) depends on the number of day you spend on trek: between Jagat – Dharapani.
If you are along, then you still need a second permit of a “ghost” trekkers. This needs a vailed passport to get, so it is not easy.
If you are interested to trek Tsum valley, it is mandatory to buy another permit for the trek.
