Nar Phu Valley Trek offers off-beaten experience and great
extension to standard Annapurna Circuit Trail. Opened in 2002, this trek offers
rare opportunity to explore secluded villages that features the blend of
Himalayan nature and ancient Buddhist culture.
Nar Phu Valley Trekking follows the Annapurna circuit trail to
charming village, Koto, then branches north into the forested Nar Khola gorge.
Vegetation starts changing into alpine and then sub-alpine scrub; inhabitant by
both Bharal (Blue Sheep) and Snow Leopard. Crossing glacier moraine, the trail
reaches to Phu valley valley (4400m), the summer grazing farmlands. The
villages has 40 small household and offers an ancient monasteries and the great
views.
Nar protects larger community in 65 houses and four Gompas stacked
on a rock above the green fields. The village offers the great insight of
bygone world.
Further trekking takes you to a barren trail that rises you
to a high camp at Kang La Phedi (4530m). A steep ascend to Kang La Pass (5320m)
rewards you with the amazing view of Nar valley to the north and Annapurna to
the south. Nar Phu Valley Trekking trail descend to Ngawal (3615), the high
route of Annapurna trail.
Nar Phu Valley Trail further follows the
Annapurna Circuit Trail to Manang, along Thorong La Phedi and descends down to
Muktinath (3760m, sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists) and trek to
Jomsom. An adventurous Jeep drive from Jomsom takes you to Tatopani where you
join a forested trail to Ghorepani where you to stay to enjoy outstanding view of
sunrise from Poonhill ridge. Further, descend hike takes you to Pothana and
then to Phedi, where you to short drive to Pokhara.
