Tilicho Lake Trek, an off beaten trek in Nepal, is the great combination of Annapurna circuit trek with magical Tilicho Lake. Tilicho Lake collects the glacial melt of the entire northern section of Annapurna and Thorang Peak and claimed to be the highest elevated lake in the world. Similarly, it has great religious significance for Hindus and flock of Hindu pilgrims’ visit this lake as it is mentioned in Holy Book – Ramayana.
No doubt, Tilicho Lake Trek offers some of world’s best views, diversity of culture, impressive deep valley and gigantic mountains encircling the prominent Annapurna Himal. Tilicho Lake Trekking route is enriched with wide range of terrain and climatic zone from sub-tropical to alpine, dry landscapes resembling to Tibetan Plateau.
Tilicho Lake Trek offers great addition to the standard circuit trek and helps to acclimatization for the high Thorung La route to the Kali Gandaki Valley. Tilicho Lake Trail follows recently built road that follows an anti-clock wise route behind the 50km Annapurna Himal. Lowland Hindu settlements gradually changes into Tibetan Buddhist community and similarly, the architecture changes to suit the harsh situation. The upper Pisang to Braga route is notable one that showcases fascinating architecture and spectacular views of Annapurna II and IV. Similarly, Manang is famous for the incredible view of Gangapurna and Annapurna III. From Manang, the Tilicho Lake Trekking trail follows the westward of Marsyangdi Valley to its main source lake. The view of lake is beautiful turquoise water, if not iced over late in the year.
The trail return through Khangsar and accross to Yak Kharka on the high pass trail. Beyond the high pass, Thorong La (5,416m) is the Muktinath, the sacred site for Hindus and Buddhist. Take an adventurous Jeep drive to Tatopani and join a magical forest trail to Poonhill. After exploration; descend to Pokhara, the city of Lake in Nepal.
